Start with the surface
The surface should be sound, clean, dry and free of wax, oil, silicone, dirt and loose coatings. Fresh paint or coatings may require additional cure time before graphics are installed.
Dry fit before removing liner
Position the graphic first. Measure from fixed references, step back, and confirm that the layout looks correct in the actual environment.
Use a hinge for cut lettering
For many pre-spaced lettering applications, low-tack tape can hold the graphic in position while a section of liner is removed and the vinyl is squeegeed from the hinge outward.
Work deliberately
Apply steady pressure and avoid trapping folds. Larger graphics may require a different installation method or professional installation.
After application
Re-squeegee edges, remove application tape at a low angle when appropriate, and inspect the entire perimeter. Avoid immediate aggressive washing or abrasion.
If the graphic is large, expensive, highly visible or being installed on a difficult surface, professional installation can cost less than replacing a failed graphic.
